THE 2009 CUT FLOWER TRIALS, H.C. Wien, Department of Horticulture, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853:
The trial was productive, making good growth into the fall, and producing a steady yield of stems (Table 11). 'Maayan' and 'Antares Flashback' had similar flower appearance, with dark centers and dark orange backs of petals. 'Antares' was the shortest of the varieties. 'Greenheart Orange' represents an unusual flower type (Fig. 11), with a fuzzy yellow‐green flower center surrounded by a pale green outer ring. Its appearance is similar to the aster variety 'Hulk'. The flowers were borne on a relatively thick stem of greater height than other varieties in the trial. 'Princess Sapporo' had a more traditional double flower appearance, with intermediate stem length and earliness.
Table 11. Stem length, yield and flower dates (days after sowing) for four calendula varieties grown in the high tunnel in fall.
